On Thursday, Jan. 10th all the officers met at 7:00 a.m. in Mr. Graham's room. We planned the 6th grade welcome meeting and induction ceremony that is coming up soon. The requirements for a 6th grader to join is to have all As and Bs and NO dicipline referrals. There is also a $20 club fee to pay, which goes towards snacks and materials needed at our club meetings. At the 6th grade welcome meeting, members will sign in, have a snack, view a powerpoint, and learn about the Jr. Beta website and how to access the Beta Blog! The welcome meeting will be Jan. 16th from 3:30-4:30. Be sure you have someone to pick you up on time. See you on the 16th!

On December 6th and 7th, Jr. Beta Club members and officers loaded the bus and traveled to Macon, GA for the State Convention. We were among 6,000 other Jr. Beta students from across the state of Georgia. We stayed at an awesome hotel called the Mariott, and we got to have our own hotel room to share with friends. Of Course, there was a curfew to be in your room by 11:00 and the doors were taped from the outside. LOL! That didn't mean we had to be asleep though. Some Jr. Beta members tried to see who could stay up the longest...I think Brie won that one! On the second day, we attended the second general session in which I took the stage and said my speech in front of thousands. Brie, Tal, Josh, Asiah, Jordan and Mary Claire also got on stage to perform our skit, and it was the best yet! We also saw many talent competitions throughout the two days. Jr. Beta members from our school performed in academic, art, poster, photography, tower of power, and quiz bowl competitions. Everyone gave it their best, and we now know what we need to do to improve for next year's convention competitions. I was very excited to be voted as your 2013 Jr. Beta State Reporter. I will get to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference at Queens University for a week this summer. All expenses and air travel included! I can't wait to attend and get to meet other Jr. Beta officers and members from across the U.S. The best part of the convention was not only being named a state officer, but getting to hang out with friends, going bowling, to the dance at the convention center , and to the Mexican restaurant Mr. Graham took us to on the way home! You'll definitely want to attend next year's convention, and who knows maybe you'll even decide to run for a state office! We have one week until the Jr. Beta State Convention in Macon, GA! At today's meeting, everyone got to see a sneak peek of the skit that will be performed next week at the convention as part of my campaign for State Reporter. Jordan Butler, Asiah Cheek, Mary Claire Finlay, Josh Fertig, Brie Pike, and Tal Thompson have practiced like crazy to get ready. The rest of the club members seemed to think it was really good as they cheered in the hallway! I just want to say thanks to Mr. Graham for encouraging me and believing in me, and I want to thank Mary Claire, Asiah, Josh, Brie, Jordan, and Tal for coming to my house after school and on the weekends to practice for hours in the front yard. I also want to thank my aunt Helena for choreographing the skit and mixing the music for us and my mom for ordering us pizza, making cookies, and organizing everything. Thanks everybody for supporting me in my campaign!
Be sure to bring these things with you for the trip:
As the Jr. Beta Club, we do service projects throughout the year. If you have any ideas for a service project, please comment. We would love to hear from you! An example of a service project would be helping with fundraising for Kyle Abernathy. Please keep Kyle in your thoughts and prayers! ~TEAM KYLE~ This morning all the Jr. Beta officers met at 7:00 a.m. with Mr. Graham to discuss the topics of interest for the upcoming meetings and events this year. Mark your calendar for our first meeting, which will be held Wednesday, October 3rd from 3:30-4:30! The first meeting will mainly be about the Jr. Beta Convention, which is coming up in December and you don't want to miss it! We will also be welcoming all the new 6th graders to Jr. Beta club! We can't wait to tell you about all the exciting things happening in Jr. Beta Club this year! ~See you Oct. 3rd! WELCOME BACK! We officially celebrated the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year here at LCMS with COUGAR registration on August 5th! Mr. Graham gave a shout out to some of the Jr. Beta officers and members to help with the busy day. Of course, this had to be one of the hottest days of summer, but we made a day of it and tried to stay cool under the canopy Mr. Giles had set up for us outside near the parking lot. Tal Thompson (Member at Large) and I walked the parking lot putting LCMS COUGAR PRIDE decals on the back of vehicles, while other officers and members including Jacey Wheeler (VP), Josh Fertig (Secretary), Jacob Hines, Scott Hicks, and others chatted and handed out decals to those passing by the LCMS Jr. Beta canopy. We had a blast being there at registration to help welcome new students to our school and say hi to those that were returning! It's great to be a Jr. Beta member and serve our school community! We would like to especially thank Mr. Graham and our awesome principal Mr. Giles for the pizza and refreshments! We wouldn't have survived the heat without those drinks! :) Hope this is the best school year ever for all of us! I'll be posting a date for our first club meeting soon! ~Taylor Moosman My name is Taylor Moosman, and I am the new reporter for the LCMS Jr. Beta Club. I'm so excited to get the opportunity to be reporter and manage the blog! I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I have two younger brothers named John Triston (3rd grade) and Liam (16 months old) and a little sister named Mary Joy (first grade). I love my family, and I love helping others. I am active in my church youth group, and I often read to the congregation on Sunday mornings at mass. I love playing sports like soccer, inline hockey, cheerleading, and softball. I like to go swimming, ice skating at Columbus Ice Rink, skating, fishing, and hanging out with my friends and family in my free time. My 6th grade year was awesome at LCMS, and I look forward to another great year in 7th grade! I hope you'll check the blog often to see what's happening in Jr. Beta Club! The party for our 8th grade club members was held May 7th in celebration of their active participation and also to bid them farewell as they are moving on to Troup High School. The party is an annual tradition for the club as well. There are many 8th grade members, but only those that have been very active in the club, participating in multiple service projects and/or attending the state convention one or more times were invited to attend the event. Students that attended the party were Marquavious Bailey, Crystal Batchelor, Haryson Blair, McKenzie Cato, Indy Cooper, Kaitlin Eaton, Sarah Frazer, Emily Green, Lindsey Gross, Bo Halcomb, Katie Howard, Andrew Ingram, Olivia Jones, Chuck Massie, Mary Kate Miles, Hudson Newton, Eli Patrick, Sierra Reyes, Savannah Tollerson, Thomas Trotter, Elizabeth Veal, Sarah Vowell, Brandon Watts, Hanna Wescott, Libby Wheeler, and Michael Young. Tessa Frank and Winston Turner were also invited, but were absent. Jr. Beta sponsors in attendance were Mrs. Gadd, Mrs. Bowen (not in photo), and Mr. Graham. 8th grade students enjoyed cupcakes, chocolate, and soft drinks at the party. They were also presented with custom made Beta Club/Troup High shirts. This was the first time the club has given custom made shirts, and they looked so cool! Congratulations 8th grade members!
