2016 State Convention Bulletin
2016 State Convention Schedule at a glance
The mission of the National Beta Club Convention Program is to allow students opportunities to showcase their academic achievement, artistic creativity, critical thinking skills, collaborative team work, and increase student leadership. The convention theme, “Beta Above and Beyond”, challenges all participants to achieve more, serve more, lead more thus succeeding beyond all expectations! This year we have added more opportunities to showcase all of these talents. Join us at the state convention to experience the energy and all that Beta has to offer.
Jr. Beta State ConventionThe Georgia Junior Beta Club state convention is held annually at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, Georgia. It holds the distinction as being the largest Junior Beta Club State Convention in the United States. LCMS has made traveling to the state convention a tradition for club members since 2006. We travel on a Troup County School System school bus and we stay at the Macon Marriott City Center. This event is a highlight for Jr. Beta Club members and a great experience that they do not forget.
To attend the state convention with us students must have a good record of behavior, and must compete in at least one event at the convention. The cost is $175. This covers convention registration for the student, their hotel accomodations, travel, food, and a convention t-shirt. The date for the next convention is November 17-18, 2016. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for the convention at our first club meeting in August. See photos of previous year's conventions here. |
National Convention
The National convention is held in the last week of June of each year. While all clubs are welcome to attend the National Convention, competitions are invitation only.
At the 2010 Georgia state convention the LCMS Jr. Beta Quizbowl team won the state title, and was invited to compete at nationals in Nashville, Tennessee in June 2011. This was the first time in club history Long Cane Middle School had been represented and competed at the National Convention. See photos from this trip by clicking here. The following year at the 2011 Georgia state convention we received another invitation to compete at Nationals, when Mary Kate Miles placed 2nd in the charcoal sketching competition. The next National convention will be held in the summer at Disney World in Orlando. |

SUMMARY
- If you are a member in the Jr. BETA Club - not attending the state convention is like an 8th grader skipping the 8th grade dance and honors night! Everyone should go if possible!
- We have a long history of doing very well in the competitions at the state convention. We have been state champions in the quizbowl competition twice, state runner up once, we’ve elected two state officers (Reporter & Vice President), and we were runner up in the campaign skit competition. We have several other top 3 finishes including artwork, poster design, and the battle of the books competition. We hope to continue our winning tradition with this year’s awesome group of Jr. Beta club members.
