On December 6th and 7th, Jr. Beta Club members and officers loaded the bus and traveled to Macon, GA for the State Convention. We were among 6,000 other Jr. Beta students from across the state of Georgia. We stayed at an awesome hotel called the Mariott, and we got to have our own hotel room to share with friends. Of Course, there was a curfew to be in your room by 11:00 and the doors were taped from the outside. LOL! That didn't mean we had to be asleep though. Some Jr. Beta members tried to see who could stay up the longest...I think Brie won that one! On the second day, we attended the second general session in which I took the stage and said my speech in front of thousands. Brie, Tal, Josh, Asiah, Jordan and Mary Claire also got on stage to perform our skit, and it was the best yet! We also saw many talent competitions throughout the two days. Jr. Beta members from our school performed in academic, art, poster, photography, tower of power, and quiz bowl competitions. Everyone gave it their best, and we now know what we need to do to improve for next year's convention competitions. I was very excited to be voted as your 2013 Jr. Beta State Reporter. I will get to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference at Queens University for a week this summer. All expenses and air travel included! I can't wait to attend and get to meet other Jr. Beta officers and members from across the U.S. The best part of the convention was not only being named a state officer, but getting to hang out with friends, going bowling, to the dance at the convention center, and to the Mexican restaurant Mr. Graham took us to on the way home! You'll definitely want to attend next year's convention, and who knows maybe you'll even decide to run for a state office!
